S2 E3 Inspiring Others to Be Entrepreneurs, with Gary Oborny

Join us as we interview Gary Oborny the Chairman and CEO of Occidental Management. We have a wide ranging interview, starting with Gary's early years growing up in Kansas, the son of two entrepreneurs.

Gary Oborny got his start in entrepreneurship at 19 as a freshmen at Wichita State University. In his freshman year, he started a landscape company and later transitioned to the oil and gas industry. Gary, established Occidental Management in 1997.

Occidental evolved into a development company with the construction of the Bristol Square property in 2000. Today Occidental is a multi-faceted company specializing in acquisitions and development as well as sales, leasing and property management.

Occidental Management operates in a variety of real estate segments including retail, office and industrial development. The company is a vertically integrated with services in development, construction, sales and leasing brokerage and property management. 

Gary Oborny and Occidental Management is known for innovative and dynamic real estate development concepts. Two recent projects were in the Kansas City/Overland Park market with the acquisition and renovation of the Overland Park Xchange and the recent acquisition of the Sprint campus. We also discuss his team's development of the old Union Station into a modern retail complex, that preserves the history of Wichita's rail station. His team is also do a rehab of the old Ice House in the Old Town area of Wichita, that will include new offices for his company.

In the podcast, Gray talks at length about the importance of developing an entrepreneurial community and working to establish the WSU Launch Prep program, the E2E accelerator and supporting programs like the Create Campain and Camp destination innovation with the idea that a rising tide lifts all boats. He carries a Class A International Builders Certificate
and is also an active member in the Wichita community by serving on multiple boards and
committees, including founding co-chair of the Entrepreneurship Task Force (ETF) of The
Greater Wichita Partnership.
